Alan D. Sklar M.D.

Alan David Sklar, M.D., died on Saturday, October 8th, at 2:20 A.M. His loving wife of 48 years, and their three daughters, were at his side. He was calm, and after 7 weeks of valiant struggle, finally at peace. After completing medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, Dr. Sklar came to Palo Alto as a resident in psychiatry at the Stanford University Medical School. He remained a resident of Palo Alto, except for three years of military service in Maryland, Washington D.C. Alan was born on May 1,1938. He was the second son of Reuben and Esther Sklar, and the brother of Herbert Sklar. His parents were Russian and Polish, Jewish immigrants. He attended City College and double majored in Languages and Chemistry. There he won a music scholarship and was graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Alan D. Sklar was a board certified psychiatrist who practiced in Palo Alto since 1970. He was a member of the Counseling and Psychotherapy Center, and taught at Stanford University as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry. Alan traveled, enjoyed festive holidays, and had season tickets to many theatrical and musical productions. He enjoyed Tennis, skiing, hiking and bicycling. Playing the violin was a life long passion. He performed regularly in the Bay Area. Alan is survived by his heart broken wife, Alice Jane Sklar, loving daughters, Jessica Nimoy of Agoura Hills, CA, Emily Wexler of Lake Tahoe, and Naomi Albertson, M.D. of Millbrae, their caring spouses, Steven Nimoy, Dan Wexler, and Tim Albertson, and four wonderful grand children, Trevor Nimoy (13), Robert Nimoy (11), Cooper Albertson (3), and Lola Albertson (5 months). Alan was not only loved by his family, but by anyone who took the time to meet his blue eyes and share themselves with him. A memorial service and graveside funeral will be held at Alta Mesa Cemetery, on Friday, October 14th
