Charles Hindt Obituary

Charles Prescott Hindt

Resident of Cupertino

May 27, 1926 - Nov.5, 2011

Beloved husband, father and grandfather Charles Prescott Hindt passed away peacefully in his Cupertino home at the age of85 years after a lingering illness. He had been under the loving care of his childhood sweetheart and wife of 27 years, Mary White Hindt. His first wife and mother of his children, Beverley Davis Hindt, passed away in 1983. He is survived by three children, four step-children, nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and three step-greatgrandchildren.

Chuck was born in Hull, Iowa, to Harvey and Charlotte (Wichman) Hindt, was raised and educated in Iowa, spending his youth in Rock Rapids where he graduated with the Class of '44. These classmates remained his closest friends all through his life. Because of a serious injury in a football team hayride, he was unable to serve in the military during WWII and spent 7 years studying at the University of Iowa.

He began his engineering career in the 1950s as a tool designer, pursuing his career in aerospace at Lockheed-Martin, Sunnyvale, Calif., retiring as a staff engineer after 34 years. He continued to maintain close friendships with his Lockheed co-workers all through his career of over fifty years.

Chuck had a passion for designing and building, his last big project a houseboat which unfortunately never went in the water. His retirement years were spent reading and traveling in the U.S. and Europe. He will be remembered for his integrity, honesty and strong work ethic, all values he passed on to his children.

Plans for a memorial service are pending.
