Viola Tsuyako Hori

Resident of Foster City,

Passed away June 6, 2012 at age 85, surrounded by family. Born in Menlo Park in 1926, she was the third child of Shiu and Misao Uyehata, itinerant farmers. During World War II, she was relocated to Poston Relocation Camp in Arizona, later attending Hamline University in St. Paul, MN.

Viola was a familiar face at Citizens Savings Bank in San Mateo, where she was a teller for 25 years. She was a member of Sturge Presbyterian Church and volunteered at the San Mateo JACL Community Center. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing and attending functions with the 442nd RCT, E Company, which was the regiment that her husband, Hiroshi, served with during World War II.

Predeceased by husband Hiroshi in 1983, she is survived by children Bruce (Diane) of South San Francisco and Beaverton, OR; Elaine Hill (John, deceased 1999) of San Mateo; and Bryan (Kathryn) of Rancho Palos Verdes. Also, grandchildren Dana and Leah Hori, Spencer and Cameron Hill, and Patricia Hori. Also, loving sister Lucile Masukane of Torrance; brother Roy Uyehata of Cupertino (deceased in 2001). Additionally, many loving sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
