James Moreton Jr. Obituary
James Moreton, Jr.
November 16, 1934 - December 2, 2012
Resident of Los Gatos
James E. Moreton, Jr., a long-time resident of Los Gatos, passed away quietly in his home after a long battle with prostate cancer. Jim was born in Los Angeles, CA, the oldest son of the late James E. Moreton, Sr. and Marcella McPolin Moreton. A graduate of Loyola High School and Loyola University in Los Angeles, Jim served honorably as a pilot in the 464th Transport Carrier Wing of the United States Air force, retiring in 1963 at the rank of Captain and returning to California with his wife, Brigid Mary Moreton (nee Quinn). Back in Southern California, James began a long and distinguished professional career, eventually moving from Southern California to San Jose in 1972, where he founded several companies, served in sales and executive roles in the leading firms in the Silicon Valley, and was a mentor to the many men and women who worked with him over the years. He was also an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Los Gatos, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and teaching with his wife in the Archdiocese of Santa Clara's marriage preparation program. After retirement, he volunteered as a docent at the Tech Museum and St. Joeseph's Cathedral, served as a juror on the Santa Clara Civil Grand Jury, and was an active member in the Sons in Retirement (SIRS) fraternal organization. Loved by his family and friends for his humor and warmth, Jim was also an avid cook, supportive gardener, and an earnest, if all too frequently unlucky, golfer.
He is survived by Brigid, his wife of 54 years, his brother, Msgr. John Moreton of Fresno, his five children and their spouses#8212;Deirdre Lehman (nee Moreton) and Clark Lehman of Mill Valley, Patrick Moreton and Christina Shmigel of Shanghai China, Kevin Moreton and Athena Moreton of San Jose, Katie Kern (nee Moreton) and John Kern of Brea and Molly Quiring (nee Moreton) and Rick Quiring of La Ca#241;ada#8212;and his eight grandchildren#8212;Molly Lehman, Emily Lehman, Kyle Moreton, Tyler Kern, Nicholas Kern, Christopher Kern, Cassy Quiring, and Sam Quiring. The family is thankful for the kindness and support of its friends in the community, and especially wants to express its gratitude for the loving caregiving Jim received from Pathways Home Health Hospice and Patricia "Cookie" Contreras. The family invites all friends to join us for a memorial service in Jim's honor on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 2:30 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 219 Bean Ave in Los Gatos. In lieu of flowers, we suggest that you continue Jim's support of the many men and women who have bravely served our country through a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or by contributing to a .
