James L. Penoyer June 22, 1933 - January 15, 2013 Resident of San Jos#233; Passed away in San Jos#233;, California, January 15, 2013, at age 79 following a lengthy illness. Jim was born June 22, 1933, to George Harvey and Alma Etta Kinsey Penoyer in Pontiac, Michigan, where he grew up. He entered the Navy in 1951 and served as an Electrician's Mate Third Class aboard the U.S.S. Walker during the Korean War. After being discharged from the Navy in 1955, Jim moved to San Francisco, where he studied at San Francisco State College and later earned a Master's Degree at San Jos#233; State University. He had a 32-year career with the Engineering Divisions of the Cities of Daly City, Mountain View, and Campbell. The last 16 years of his career were spent running the Land Development Section of Campbell before his retirement in 1993. Jim enjoyed sailing and solving the problems of the world over coffee with his buddies. He and his wife, Lynn, shared an interest in genealogy and spent many vacations traveling in Great Britain, Canada and the U.S. in pursuit of just one more ancestor. He had a great analytical mind and a wry sense of humor, and he will be missed. Jim is survived by his wife, Lynn Penoyer, and his son and daughter in law, Flyn and Nenette Penoyer, of San Jos#233;; his grandson and granddaughter in law, Christopher and Aimee Penoyer, and great-granddaughters, Jenna and Julie Penoyer, of Atwater; and his granddaughter, Trista Penoyer, and great-grandson, Gabriel Cortez, of San Jos#233;. He is also survived by his sister, Reva Macy, of Flint, Michigan, and was survived by his brother, William Penoyer, of El Paso, Texas, who has since passed away. Jim was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Peg Penoyer, and by his siblings, George Penoyer, Marylin Keith, Joyce Yates and Lucille Penoyer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23, at 12:00 noon in the Redwood Room at the Campbell Community Center, One West Campbell Ave., Campbell. A reception will follow. If you wish, a donation may be made to the Santa Clara County Historical and Genealogical Society, 2635 Homestead Rd., Santa Clara, CA 95051.
