James (Jim) Casten of Walnut Creek passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the age of 94, with his wife at his side. Born to Emily and Louis Casten in Buffalo, NY, he leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Barbara, and his children John Casten (Santi) of San Francisco and Mary Genetti (Greg) of Los Gatos. He will be missed by his adored grandchildren Diana, Stephen, Jennifer and Maximilian Genetti. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Myers of Vero Beach, FL and was preceded by his sisters Emily Luther and Mary Wilkinson. James Casten was a globe trotter and his career as a chemical engineer provided him the opportunity to travel the world, a passion he and his wife continued into their retirement as active members of the International Executive Service Corps. He was a 50 year member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and belonged to the Society of Enologists. In addition, he was a member of the Masons, the SIRs, the Rotary Club and was a longtime member of the Olympic Club.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 13601 Saratoga Avenue in Saratoga on Saturday, April 27 at 2:30. Interment will be at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 66 Saint Stephens Drive in Orinda on Sunday, May 5th at 12:00.
