Betty Darlene McHenry Resident of Pollock Pines Was born in Kankakee, IL, on September 7th, 1934. While in grade/high school, one joy of her life was musical classes', chorus, and musical productions. In high school Darlene and her best friend from age 13, Laura, formed a girls club named KITS. KITS stands for "Kissable... (The reader is asked to decode the letters after K.) Darlene's first date with her husband-to-be was memorable as her hair was in curlers. It reached a peak by eloping to Elgin, IL, on Nov. 21st, 1952. Rev. Rogers (Methodist) married us. They never looked back, as their love for each other grew. Darlene was the Matriarch of the McHenry family. One KITS said of her, "she had her feet firmly planted in reality and kindness". Darlene lived by strong principles, yet she was a quiet, gentle soul. In Feb, 2003, Darlene was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Darlene was able to stay at home in familiar surroundings. At the end though, her heart gave way on December 17th, 2012. Their 60th wedding anniversary was celebrated on November 21st, 2012., Two photo albums, along with Darlene's "Grandmother Remembers" book are a beautiful memorial to her and honor her life, which cherished Family and Friends along with her commitment to Jesus and his Church. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, daughter Cathy Ann, son Steven Lynn, and 3 grandchildren, Misty, Jason, and Marshall. The burial will be a private ceremony with family and close Friends at The Madronia Cemetery, Saratoga, on April 20th, 2013, at 11 AM. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will follow at 2 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 14103 Saratoga Ave., Saratoga.
