Josephine Mary Alessandro
6/29/1911-4/10/2013
Resident of San Jose
Our beloved Josephine passed away in peace and with loved ones by her side, after 101 wonderful, happy and loving years. Josephine was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and good friend to many during her long and full life. Josephine was born in Marion, Ill, and, as Rosie the Riveter, met her husband Carl. They relocated to San Jose in the 1960's where she raised her family and worked in retail for many years. Afterward, she joined the amazing and wonderful Foster Grandparent program which literally changed her life with renewed purpose and focus. Josephine adored working with the young children and teachers in the classrooms, who loved & adored her in return. For the next 30 years, she continued her loving and passionate work with the children who lovingly called her "Grandma Jo" and made many loyal friendships during her long volunteer work in the program. Josephine was proudly elected Queen of the Silicon Valley Charity Ball in recognition of her many years of service to the community and the Foster Grandparent program. She was a passionate, proud and rabid fan of the SF Giants and enthusiastically lived for baseball season. Josephine will be remembered and missed by her many loyal friends and will be especially remembered for her kindness, warmth and smile. She is survived by 2 loyal and devoted daughters Maribeth Alessandro and Lucille Lape; 2 grandchildren Tim Lape and Heather Ringer; and 5 great grandchildren Kali, Aalaya, Joaquin, Kira and Josephine. God gave Josephine her final gift 2 days before her passing with the birth of her 5th great grandchild who was lovingly given her namesake to carry on. She lived a very full and wonderful life and will always be loved and missed, and never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the in her honor. Visitation on Weds.
