Donald Crowther Obituary
Donald Crowther Resident of Rocklin, CA Born on November 23, 1934, Donald Crowther passed away peacefully in his sleep in Roseville, CA on April 10, 2013 at the age of 78. He was born and raised in Newport, Rhode Island, where he spent his childhood, graduating from Rogers High School then joining the Air Force. He spent four years in the service as a mechanic, during which time he met and married Barbara Jean Leary. While stationed at Grandview Air Force Base in Missouri, their first child Cindy was born. Don and his family lived in Kansas City, Missouri where he was employed as a dispatcher with the Kansas City Police Department. Two more daughters were born-Jacquie and Gayle, after which the family moved to Sunnyvale, CA. Don worked for the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety until he joined the California Highway Patrol in 1966. While working for the CHP Don earned his AA in Criminal Justice at DeAnza Junior College in Cupertino. In 1977 Don and Barbara moved to Morgan Hill, CA where they were both very involved in the administration and operations of the Gilroy Garlic Festival. Both of them served in various capacities as Committee Chairmen and Directors. Don was also a lifetime member of the Elks, where he served as an Exalted Ruler and Chairman of the Board. Don retired as a Sergeant in the CHP in December, 1996 after spending nearly 40 years in law enforcement, and in 2001 moved to Rocklin, CA where he was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, and visiting with friends and relatives. At the time of his death, Don was living at the Oakridge Healthcare Facility in Roseville, CA, where the staff took excellent care of him. Don is survived by Barbara, his wife of 58 years, and three daughters-Cindy (Bob) of American Canyon, CA, Jacquie (Loren) of Boise, ID, and Gayle (Chuck) of Medford, OR and seven grandchildren. Don also leaves two brothers-Jim (Mary) and David (Ann), as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. A celebration of Don's life is being planned for August 3, 2013 in Rocklin, CA. In lieu of flowers, it would have pleased Don to have anyone who chooses to do so make a donation in his name to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, the Carmichael Elks Lodge #2103 or your own favorite charity. In the meantime, raise a glass in his name and remember the good times. Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones shines down to let us know they are with us.
