Don was born in Johnson City, New York and grew up with an older sister Ruthie and a younger brother David. After high school, Don entered the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. Don began work for IBM at the original card plant and atteded San Jose State and received his degree in Fine Arts. Don was always proud to be the first in the Jones family to receive a four year diploma from college.
Don and Juanita Hazel met 45 years ago and have been married for 33 years. He was a warm, caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be remembered by all who knew him. He was an artist and sculptor who liked to carve soap figurines for his grandchildren. Don was a very talented man. He retired from IBM in 1987 as a Patent Illustrator and later worked for various Patent Attorneys at home.
Don is survived by his loving wife Juanita, a brother David (Mary) and a niece and three nephews. He has three children from a previous marriage living in Auburn; Leigh Balibrera (Jeff), Bradley Jones (Barbara), and Cathy Reuter (Tim). Don was also a loving father to Juanita's five children; Debbie Pick (Bob), Kimberly Hazel-Kocotis (Tom), Stephen Hazel, Marc Hazel (Laura) and Kelley Hazel (Dave). He is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Don loved big family dinners, camping, fishing, baseball games, barbeques, beach parties and anything track and field. Don and Juanita traveled to many places in the U.S. using their time shares and enjoyed every minute.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society, San Jose. A Celebration of Life will be held June 1, 2013 in Chico, California.
