Maxine Wilkus was born October 24th, 1927 in Valley City, North Dakota and entered into rest on May 2nd, 2013 at the age of 85. She passed away peacefully at home with family at her side. She joins her beloved husband of 63 years, George Wilkus, who preceded her in death on April 2nd 2011. She was an only child preceded in death by her parents, Golda and Marie Bartlett of San Jose,
Maxine grew up in St. Paul Minnesota and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1945. She married the love of her life, George, on Sept. 25th 1947 and in 1952 moved to San Jose.
As a long time parishioner of St. John Vianney, she was a member of the parish council. In 1966 the family moved to Almaden, attended Holy Family parish and volunteered for many years on the counting team. She is presently a member of St. Anthony's parish in south San Jose. During her life she volunteered at O'Connor Hospital and worked for a time at the YMCA. Maxine was active in the San Jose Women's Club, the Opera Guild, and Los Gatos Antiques. Wherever she was involved, she touched the lives of many people with her warm and loving personality and stayed connected through her involvement in many women's organizations throughout her life including the "Decadent Lunch Bunch". She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by three sons, Gerald (Sharon), Thomas (Pam) of San Jose and Pat (Jann) of Foster City, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Please join family and friends for a memorial celebration of Maxine's life on Saturday, May 18th at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 20101 McKean Rd. San Jose, CA 95120 with mass at 11:00 a.m.
