Monroe passed away peacefully at home in San Jose on July 10 at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Monika for 34 years; father of Belynda Morris, Marlene Morris and Cynthia Burgard; stepfather of Kirsten Mildbrandt, Klaus Schreyer and Christian Schreyer; grandfather of eight and one great-grand daughter and brother to Beverly Denton.
He displayed unwavering courage and always remained positive in the hope that he might survive that he might survive his two and a half year battle with leukemia. Our thanks go out to the incredible Oncology staff at Stanford Medical Center, his physician and friend, Dr. Joseph Kraut, Jr. and staff, and Hospice care for their care in making his last few weeks as comfortable as possible.
Monroe was born in Elkhart, IN on April 3, 1938 to Russell and Jane Morris. After graduating from Lake Forest Academy, FL in 1956, he volunteered to serve in the Army at age 18, and served his country for 20 years. His tour of duty included working in Korea, Germany and US as a medical lab assistant in the Hematology, Serology and Biochemistry departments. He obtained his license to practice Nuclear Medicine Technology in 1969 from the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. In 1978, he retired from the Army with an Honorable Discharge, completing his military service at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco. Upon his retirement, he started his own business as a Nuclear Medicine Consultant and worked as a Technologist in many Bay Area hospitals. He was a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and served as president of the Technology Section, 1973-1974. He was an extremely dedicated, professional and conscientious technologist and was loved by his coworkers and patients alike for over 50 years. He will be deeply missed.
