Resident of San Mateo
Jerry Holbrook, 66, passed away on September 27 at Stanford Hospital where he was being treated for acute leukemia. He will be missed by his loving family: his wife of 42 years Jean; mother Hazel Holbrook; brother Ed Holbrook; sister-in-law Joyce Holbrook; nieces Janet and Jennifer Holbrook; and by many others who loved him.
Jerry was born in Pennington Gap, Virginia, and moved with his family to California in 1960. He attended Capuchino High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969. In 1973, he joined the South San Francisco Fire Department, becoming a Captain two years later and serving the community for 29 years. Jerry was proud to be a part of the fire service and was an inspiration and a role model to many.
Jerry was a good man—kind, compassionate and generous. Jerry put family first and devoted his life to helping others. He had a passion for Corvettes, a lifelong hobby that gave him great pleasure.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Ed Holbrook, Sr.
There will be no service, according to his wishes. Instead he wants everyone to go home and hug their loved ones. Hold them close. Life is short.
