Douglas M. Dabney
Resident of San Jose
Douglas M Dabney, age 71, known as "Huggy Dougie" by the country crowd at the Saddle Rack in San Jose CA, passed away on Oct 10, 2013 from acute kidney and heart failure at Mission Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Santa Clara CA.
Doug is survived by two sons, Scott, now living in San Diego CA, and Ryan Dabney in Everett WA. Their mother was Patricia Dabney who passed away in 1990. He is also survived by his son's wives, Kelly, wife of Scott, and Em, wife of Ryan and their children Ella, Sage & Nathaniel. Doug was also the step father to Steven Fisher Jr of Torrance CA, and Lisa Juliette of Houston Texas, children of his longtime girlfriend and second & current wife, Amy Fisher. He was also the step-grandfather to their offspring, Jasmine, Jason, Jordan, & Dalton.
Doug was born in Palo Alto CA on March 24, 1942 and lived in California and Nevada graduating from high school in Las Vegas in 1960 followed by time in the US Marine Corp. He was very proud of his time in the Marine Corps. He lived in San Jose CA from 1972 to the present. In his work life he was on the cutting edge; meticulous, and driven. Doug was an early founder of Atari and spent 25 years as an Engineer at IBM. He also worked at Ampex, and Chuck-E Cheese. He designed and built a "interval-o-meter" for NASA's Ames research center. This device controlled the camera shutter for high altitude photography for the U2 spy planes. He was currently retired.
Doug was man known for his sense of humor, & a collector of movies. Doug enjoyed country western dancing, travel, motorcycle riding, horseback riding, sailing, and of course being a dad. He was very much a family man. In his later years his health began to deteriorate, though he enjoyed every moment spent with family, his new wife and his cats.
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, October 27th, 2013 at Almaden Lake Regional Park, The Arroyo Picnic area: http://www.sanjoseca.gov/Facilities/Facility/Details/Arroyo-Almaden-Lake-Park-263, The Arroyo Picnic area Almaden Lake Regional Park, 6099 Winfield Blvd San Jose, CA 95120 (408) 277-5130, Arroyo is located on the east side of the park near the Los Alamitos Creek Trail. Please use the Winfield Boulevard entrance. The celebration begins at 2pm. Any donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association. http://www.diabetes.org/donate/ or to your favorite charity.
