Terence John Shannon, age 70. Parents: John Willis Shannon, Ethel Catherine Magee.
Education: Born in San Francisco at Mary's Help Hospital, Terry attended St. Michael's Grammar School, St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, and graduated from Riordan High School in San Francisco. He graduated from City College of San Francisco and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from San Francisco State in 1969. He then attended UC Hasting College of the Law receiving his doctor in law in 1972. Served in the US Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego.
Employment History: Terry worked as a playground director in San Francisco and drove a taxi cab while attending college and law school. After he received his law degree Terry worked for George Davis and the San Francisco Public Defender Office. After leaving the SF Public Defender office he opened his own law practice in San Mateo, then moved to Foster City, practicing law for over 40 years until his retirement this year.
Terry was a proud member of Rotary International, Foster City Rotary Club, serving as President. Terry attended the Lake Tulloch Bible Church in Copperopolis.
Terry was a devoted father and grandfather who adored his children and grandchildren, and cherished spending time with his family and friends. He was proud of their accomplishments, and enjoyed going to see them play soccer, watching them learn to ice skate and gymnastics, cheerlead or play high school football.
Terry was an avid 49er and Cal Bear football fan, often on game day you would see him flying his team flags. He was a member of the Whalers Cove and Foster City Yacht Clubs. On weekends you would see him and his wife Mary along with his two Irish Terriers boating on the lagoon in Foster City, in his boat the Irish Mist. He loved animals, especially his Irish Terriers, Maeve, Culchuian, Molly, Patrick Henry and Penelope and was a member of the Irish Terrier Club of Northern California. Always giving of himself and wanting to give back to the communities where he lived, Terry volunteered with the Foster City CERT program and with the Calaveras Sheriff Department.
Survivors: Spouse Mary Helen of Copperopolis, CA. Children: Son: Robert Shannon, Novato, Ca, granddaughter Jessica and grandson Jason. Daughter: Lisa Kelley, San Francisco, husband Michael, granddaughters Juliet and Adeline. Step Daughter: Aleesa Daley, Hermosa Beach, CA. Brother Gerald Shannon, Novato, CA, sisters Kathleen Keighran, Foster City,CA; Patrica Canzian, San Mateo, CA; and June Coel, Lincoln, Ca, and nephews: Timothy and Aidan Keighran, Casey Shannon and Kevin Coel. Nieces Jona, Kathy, Joanie, and Colleen and first wife Karen.
He is predeceased by his parents, son John and sister Constance, and niece Jody
A private service for family and friends will be held in Copperopolis, CA. A celebration of his life will be held at a later time in Foster City, Ca in January.
