Resident of Texas formerly of Gilroy
Born and raised in Menlo Park, California attended St. Joseph's Seminary and graduated from Menlo Park - Atherton High School in 1953.
He served proudly in the U.S. Air Force for 34 years. He was a recipient of the Air Force Cross, Silver Star, The Legion of Merit, Three Distinguished Flying Crosses, Eleven Air Medals and the Purple Heart..
Mike and his wife, Patricia, retired to Gilroy, Ca. where Mike had family roots. Mike served on the Gilroy City Council for six years and as Mayor for two years after the current Mayor ran for another position. He was proud of never receiving less than 76% of the vote. He also served on 10 local and county Boards and Commissions. He left public office in 1999 and after 13 years in Gilroy, moved away to spend more time with family.
He is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Margaret (O'Donoghue) Gilroy, his first wife, Mary Nell (Quinn) Gilroy, and daughter, Cecelia Denise (Henderson) Williams. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Gilroy; son, Michael Kevin; grandchildren, Ragen, Michael Q., Ryan Gilroy and their mother, Patty Mistrot Brekke; twin grandsons; Chris Henderson (Kristen) and S/Sgt. Tim Henderson (Elise); son-in-law, Mitch Williams; great-granddaughters, Paige and Adlin Henderson; two sisters, Irene (George) Kusch, Henrietta Synder, a brother, Michael James and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 11 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Gilroy. Burial will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.
