Daniel Charles Persyn Sr., of Lincoln, passed into eternal life Wednesday, January 8.

Dan was born in San Francisco on May 6, 1938 to Gertrude Fay (Walker) and Albert Anthony Persyn Sr. Dan graduated from Riordan High School and attended the University of California at Berkeley. He was elected Phi Beta Kappa and was accepted early to the medical school of the University of California at Los Angeles, earning his Medical Doctor degree in 1963. Following internship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and residency at Stanford Medical Center, Dan served for two years as a Lt. Commander in the United States Public Health Service, stationed in San Francisco. He practiced medicine as a pulmonary internist for 43 years and was elected a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. A lifelong Catholic, Dan was for many years a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved golf, the beach, and his family.

Dan was survived by wife Sandra Diane (Beringer) Persyn; children Daniel Charles (Debra), Mary Kelly (Ian Eslick), Timothy Charles (Hillary Thagard), and Sara Fay Redfern (Michael); brother and sister-in-law Albert and Sandra; grandchildren Lucas, Anne, Claire, Lance, Makena, and Thomas; and seven nephews and nieces and their children. Judith Ann Hallagan of Sunnyvale is the mother of the three older children. Dan was predeceased by his parents, his brother Michael, and his daughter Jennifer Fay.

Visitation at St. Joseph Church in Lincoln on Wednesday, January 15, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a rosary to follow. Funeral service at St. Joseph Church on Thursday, January 16, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos on Friday, January 17, at noon.
