Robert Russell Reek
March 15, 1941-March 30, 2014
Lifelong resident of San Jose
Robert Reek, of San Jose, died suddenly and unexpectedly, on Sunday, March 30, 2014. He was 73.
Robert graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1959. He later went on to earn his B.S. from Long Beach State University.
Robert was proud to have worked 33 years for the Fire Department. His first 13 years were with Santa Clara County Fire Department and then with the San Jose Fire Department for his remaining 20 years, retiring as Captain.
After retiring from the Fire Department, Robert worked at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center for 10 years as Fire Marshall, in charge of Fire Safety and Prevention over the entire complex.
Robert is pre-deceased by his parents Samuel and Vera Reek, his son Robert James Reek, and his brother Ronald F. Reek.
He is survived by Carole, his wife of 53 years; his daughter Jill O'Connor (James), sons Adam Reek (Sandy) and Seth Reek (Veronica). He also leaves behind his six beloved grandchildren: Olivia and Sophia, Ethan and Jillian, and Ava and Dario. He is also survived by his brother Patrick Reek (Patricia) and sister-in-law Maureen Reek (Ronald).
Always artistic, after retirement, Robert studied fine art and discovered his passion for painting in oils. He was a voracious reader of history and a great urban farmer. He loved traveling, fine wines, and spending time with his wife.
The Reek family would like to thank Nella Henninger, Lynn and Kathy Knapp, SJ Fire Department Division Chief Chuck Rangel, Matt Steckel and all the first responders from CAL Fire for their loving support.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday April 26, at Saint Joseph's Cathedral Basilica, San Jose, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the San Jose Fire Fighters' Burn Foundation/Valley Medical Center.
