Russell V. Roessler passed away on April 18, 2014.
He was born on March 16, 1921 in South Bend, Washington. His parents were Otto W. Roessler and Melissa Rock Roessler. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Harold and Melissa; and his wife, Obdulia Siqueiros Roessler.
He graduated from South Bend High School in 1938 and was president of the student body. He graduated from San Jose State College in 1942; attended the United States Marine Corps' Officers Candidate Class in Quantico, Virginia; in 1942 and served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, in WW II. He participated in landings on the Marshall Islands and on Okinawa. He served in the USMC reserve until 1958, but was discharged from active duty in October 1945.
Russell attended law school at Stanford University following the Marine Corps and obtained his JD degree in 1948. He was admitted to practice law in January 1949 and has continued to practice the profession he loved for 64 years.
He served as president of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, as vice chairman of the Executive Committee of the Conference of Delegates at the California State Bar, and for many years served as chairman of the Advisory Committee to the United States District Court sitting in San Jose. He was heavily involved in obtaining the United
States District Court's right to sit and hold court in San Jose which commenced in 1966 after his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee of the United States Congress.
Russell served as a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association representing the Santa Clara County Bar Association. He was a lawyer delegate to the Judicial Conference, 9th Circuit, from 1964 to 1979, appointed by the Chief Judge.
He is survived by the following children: Craig (Sue) Roessler; Lynn (Gary) Gifford; Karen Perry; Kurt Roessler; Robert (Adrienne) Buckley; Maritza (David) Meskan; Thomas Buckley; and Michelle Giovanola. He is survived by grandchildren Bryan Roessler, Eric Gifford, Jenna Hughes, Rodney Perry, Melissa Perry, Daniel Swanson, Samuel Buckley, Bradley Stone, Jack Giovanola, and Ava Giovanola. He is survived by great-grandchildren Ella Hughes, Eli Gifford, Addison Hughes, and Tan Gifford.
He wants to thank Dr. David Hyun and his staff; Dr. Bruce Lerman and his staff; Dr. Jeff Anderson and his staff; Dr. Robert Masi and his staff; Dr. Douglas Robinson and his staff; and Trudi Harger his assistant for 33 years.
A Private memorial services to be held in May.
