Wayne Leeroy Walker, 89, of Saratoga, CA and Davis, CA passed away on March 30, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.!
! He was born to William and Rosa Walker in Wann, OK on October, 24, 1924 and was the youngest of 7 children. The family moved to Belton, MO when he was a young boy. He graduated from Belton High School, followed by Baker University in Kansas. !
! Wayne enlisted in the
while in college out of a sense of patriotism and duty. He attended flight school at several bases and received his wings at the end of WWII. After his enlistment was up he returned to Baker University and obtained his BA in business. Wayne re- signed with the Navy during the Korean War as a reserve and continued flying, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. !
! Wayne married Marjorie Street in 1952. Together they had four children, but he lost her to cancer in 1970.!
! In 1956, Wayne was hired by United Airlines as a flight engineer, eventually becoming a first officer on DC-8's and later 747's, He could never decide which plane he loved to fly most, as they were so different. The one constant was that he loved flying the San Francisco to Honolulu route, which he flew until his retirement as a Captain in 1984. !
! In 1975, Wayne flew for the MAC-V (Military Airlift Command-Vietnam) bringing home soldiers at the end of the
. One of his proudest accomplishments was bringing them back to their loved ones.!
! While Wayne missed flying, retirement allowed him to spend more time with his beloved wife. Wayne married Jean Prouty in 1974 and they were both longtime members of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Saratoga. He was active in various men's groups until they moved to the University Retirement Community in Davis, CA where Wayne lived until he passed away. !
! Wayne is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 39 years, his three sons Jeff (Tiffany), Todd, and Chris (Kat), Jean's three daughters Betsy Alver (Larry), Joanne Ciscell (Michael) and Suzanne Chaffin (Brian), and 10 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer.!
! Wayne was a very loving and caring husband, father, and friend. He will be remembered for being kind, honest, and humble and he will be missed greatly by all who knew him.!
!A memorial service for Wayne will be held June 28, 2014 at 2:00pm at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, located at 13601 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga, CA 95070.
