Alton Forrest Bullard Obituary
Alton Forrest Bullard
Nov. 10, 1919 - May 17, 2014
Of Gold River
Previously of San Mateo, CA. Dad was born in Bozeman, MT, but spent most of his childhood in Tacoma, WA. His main interests were in aircraft and the people who flew them. We still have his scrapbook of boyhood clippings of aviation greats Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, Wiley Post and many others.
He went on to serve in the Army Air Corps during WWII, which took him to Egypt, South Africa and Italy where he started writing to one of his tent mate's pen pals, Janice. After the war, Alton and Janice were married in St. Louis where he received his aeronautical engineering degree from St. Louis University. After graduation, he and Janice moved to San Mateo, CA where he began his 34-year career with United Air Lines, retiring in 1982 as a Staff Engineer.
After retiring, he did a great deal of volunteer work, first for Traveler's Aid at the S.F. Airport, then giving tours at the United maintenance base. He also installed Lifeline units for Mills Hospital, did driving for cancer patients, and worked at the local polling place during elections. He and Mom were able to take many trips abroad and to Hawaii. Dad loved his family, helping others, meeting new friends and being involved at church.
Dad was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years and was a godly example to his family of a committed husband. He leaves behind his children, Lynette Hunt (Mark) and Brian (Sue), as well as five grandchildren, Jason Hunt (Nikki), Ben Hunt (Lorie), Sarah Sabatino (Matthew), Ian (Melissa) and Corinne Snider (Jonathan) and seven great grandchildren. We all will miss him.
As per his wishes, there will be no funeral.
