Ronald Crane Obituary

Ronald Crane
June 1, 1950 - June 19, 2017
Mountain View
It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald C. Crane announce his passing on June 19, following a long battle with cancer. Ron, a longtime resident of Mountain View, received his BS MIT '72 and MS Stanford '74 in Electrical Engineering. He is credited with important early developments in Ethernet and as a co-founder of 3Com and LanMedia.
His interest in technology continued in retirement as a mentor for the First Robotics team at Homestead High School and team member involved in a number of projects at the Computer History Museum including the restoration of an IBM 1401.
He is survived by his wife, Rosanne Kermoian Crane, his sister Barbara Crane (Brian Dunne) and brother Bill (Lynn) Crane. A celebration of Ron's life will be held at 2:00pm, on Sunday, August 27, at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. Donations may be made to the Ron Crane Fund for Neuroendocrine Tumor Research, http://netrf.org/donate.

My husband and I knew Ron and Barbara in high school and liked them very much. We always thought Ron was the smartest kid we knew. We were so happy to see him looking like (as I told him) a real James Bond' at the 10 year reunion; smooth and handsome. His was a success story that still brings us great pleasure to remember.

So sorry to hear of Ron's passing. He was such a brilliant, kind man. I worked with Ron at 3Com for 7 years, beginning when it was just a start up.
