H. Joyce Larsen January 2, 2015 - April 20, 2015 H. Joyce Larsen, 84 of Emmett passed away Monday April 20th, 2015 at St Luke's Hospital after a sudden illness. Her funeral was held Saturday April 25 at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. Joyce was born January 2, 1931 in Caldwell, ID to Lester C. Murray and Lou E. (Skelton) Murray, she was the youngest of four children. Joyce attended grade school in Roswell, ID. After the family moved to Emmett's upper bench, Joyce attended Central Mesa and then graduated in 1948 from Emmett High School. Joyce was a member of the National Honor Society, the Emmett HS band and pep band for four years and was named their Sweetheart's Ball Queen in 1947. She was also the first girl in Gem County to represent the VFW for Girls State. Joyce married Dwight G. Parks in 1948. They moved to Stibnite, ID where they both worked for the Bradley Mining Co. In 1948, while still in Stibnite, Joyce contracted Polio, an illness that plagued her activities, the balance of her life. They had three children, Rick, Pamela and Penny their marriage ended in 1957. Joyce worked and raised the three children herself. She worked for the John Hancock Ins. Co., and Richfield Oil Company in Boise before taking a job with the Boise Cascade Corp. as a Regional Secretary. Joyce married Martin G. Larsen in 1967 and they had one child, Lisa. Joyce and Martin enjoyed their life together. In 1983 Joyce took a medical retirement after having a stroke. She enjoyed her retirement keeping busy being a wife and mother. She also enjoyed cooking, painting, making afghans, going camping each summer weekend with family and friends to Clear Creek and she really enjoyed sitting on her patio watching the birds and enjoying her flowers. Joyce was a member of the Catholic Women's Council, Alter Society, Charter member of Beta Sigma Phi-Alpha Mu Chapter, Valentine Sweetheart of Beta Sigma Phi Regional Ball (1956), Emmett High School Alumni Assn., and member and secretary of 'Women in Timber'. One of the highlights of her life was while working with Boise Cascade she went on a helicopter ride to the Wilderness area…she said it was breath taking! Joyce had lived at Apple Valley and then Meadow View Assisted Living in Emmett at the time of her death. She is preceded in death by her husband Martin; her parents; two brothers, Everett and Wayne Murray; a sister, Edith M. Sawyer and a great grandson, Bodhi Moore. She is survived by one son, Richard D Parks, Emmett; three daughters, Pamela Parks, Emmett, Penny (Dr. Tom) Woodward, Meridian and Lisa (Troy) Knapp of New Plymouth; 11 special grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Joyce was proud of her children and grandchildren and felt blessed with her many lifetime friends. She will always be remembered for the beautiful smile that lit up any room she entered. We will miss our Momma so very much.
