Brown, Ruth*
Ruth M. Brown 1923 - 2015 Ruth recently described heaven as LOVE, LIGHT, and GLORY. She joined her Savior there on Sunday morning, March 22, 2015. Ruth died at home, surrounded by her family. Ruth was the daughter of Phil and Pearl (Ostrander-Bucher) Little and was born and raised in Garden Springs, a tight-knight community in Spokane, Washington. Her Great Depression childhood included winter sleigh rides, taffy pulling, a community church, and Sunday dinners with flare. Ruth helped her mother serve hobos meals - the vagrants had marked her parents' home as a place to receive a meal for doing a chore. From Ruth's childhood to the last day of her life, she exemplified neighborliness and hospitality. Ruth excelled in home economics and bookkeeping in Spokane's Lewis and Clark High School. She put her skills to work immediately after graduation in 1941, when she went to work in accounting for a corrugated culvert company. During her senior year of high school, a young man from Emmett on a team putting up Gospel Signs on the highway in her neighborhood stayed at her parent's home. Maurice Brown sent her a birthday card in March, the beginning of a long correspondence. After Pearl Harbor, Maurice was drafted in February 1942. With the help of friends and family who shared War Ration Books for tires to get the groom to the wedding and for sugar for a cake, they arranged their wedding in Spokane on October 17, 1943. Ruth joined Maurice at Army Air Corp training bases in Pocatello, Idaho, Muroc, California, and Peyote, Texas. After Maurice was discharged in 1945, they settled in Emmett and bought an acre along the canal on Lincoln Avenue. Ruth and Maurice put the entire acre into garden their first year, and were a lifelong gardening team with Ruth doing the canning and freezing. She knew how to use a flower arrangement, a place setting, or a quart of peaches to tell someone how special they were. Ruth was a lifelong student of the Bible and loved at her Gem Community Church. Emmett benefited from her hard work and heart to serve: she was a friend to those she worked with in packing houses, she was part of the Walter Knox Hospital Auxiliary, worked on precinct election boards, and she helped lead Children's Bible Clubs and the Bible Story Trailer at the Gem County Fair. She was also active in Emmett's Christian Women's Club. Ruth prayed daily for family, friends, and the world. Ruth shared her wisdom with those she mentored and nourished friendships from every phase of her life, and her children's lives. Ruth was a lively spirit, a loving wife, a caring mother, cherished aunt, and an enthusiastic grandmother and great grandmother. Summers, Thanksgivings, and Christmases were spent making unforgettable memories with her family, which included her baking, summer water fun in the back yard, trips to Warm Lake, and time just soaking up her love. She was amazing at reflecting God's love and sharing a faith that spanned generations. Ruth is survived by her husband of 71 years, Maurice A. Brown; daughters Ruth A. Dobriski and Sharon Brown of Vancouver, Washington, and son Tom Brown of Seattle, Washington; her grandchildren, Courtney (Paul) McEwan of Vancouver, and Josef (Heather) Dobriski of Morgan Hill, California, her great grandchildren, Austin and Ashlyn McEwan; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Charles S. Little of Seattle, and Robert D. Little of Emmett and Lapwai, Idaho; her sisters-in-law: Mrs. Floyd D. (Evelyn) Brown and Mrs. Dale (Doris) Shaw of Emmett; and her brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Eugene and Berneice Blosser of Phoenix, Arizona, and Alfred Dick and Mary Brown of Hayward, California. Memorials may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship Idaho, PO Box 427, Nampa, ID 83686, or Teach-One-to-Lead One, P. O. Box 790, Vancouver, WA 98666-0790. Viewing will at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27th. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28th at the Potter Funeral Chapel with burial following at Emmett Cemetery.

Burgess, Everdena "Dena"*
Everdena "Dena" L. Burgess April 5, 1942 - March 27, 2015 Everdena "Dena" L. Burgess passed away in a Boise hospital on March 27th, 2015 after a battle with cancer. Dena was born in Wendell, Idaho on Easter morning, April 5th, 1942 to Clarence and Etta (Alberts) Haussler. The family, including a sister Evelyn and a brother Marvin, moved to Emmett when she was a young child. She attended country schools including Central Mesa and graduated from Emmett High School in 1960. An early marriage brought two children into her life: a son John and daughter Colleen. She later married James (Jim) Burgess in 1972 and gained not only a husband but two step-children Dennis and Callie. The family had many great outdoor adventures following Jim's profession of building dams and bridges. For a few years they spent summers in the mountains of Grandjean, Jackpot NV, and Sumpter Oregon, returning to Emmett each year for school. Dena began working for H&R Block in Emmett in the late 1970's and was a bookkeeper as well as a tax preparer. She became manager of the Ontario office soon thereafter and remained with the company for 25 years. She left H&R Block in the 1990's to start her own business and continued in that field until retiring 4 years ago. She dearly loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms and huckleberries, camping and gardening. Her flower garden gave her so much pleasure, especially the irises and zinnias. However, Dena's greatest joy was her family; children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sunday and holiday dinners with everyone there kept a smile on her face. Dena is survived by her children John St.Germain, Colleen & Ron Coates, grandchildren Alesha & Nick Wise, Christopher Coates, Brian & Samantha Coates, Great Grand Children Gavin Wise and Kambria Wise, and many nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her mother and father; sister, Evelyn and brother, Marvin. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Potter Funeral Chapel. Burial is to follow at the Emmett Cemetery.
