Dora Lamone Scott Hinton, 93, of Emmett, Idaho, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013.
Dora was born on Feb. 9, 1919, in Shelley, Idaho, to Lionel L. Kump and Tillie A. Mitchell Kump. On July 22, 1944, in Rigby, Idaho, Dora married Wayne Scott, and they began their life together in Pocatello, Idaho, where they lived until 1946. They then moved to Emmett, where Wayne worked for his brother and sister-in-law, Leslie and Edith Scott, at Scott's Locker and Appliance until 1949 when he and Dora started a restaurant business of their own.
Dora and Wayne's first restaurant was on North Washington where they were located for four years until they built their home and a new restaurant on Highway 16. They ran their restaurant on the highway for 10 years before deciding to open a smaller restaurant at the corner of Fifth and Washington. Scott's Humdinger was enjoyed by many locals and was the teen hangout for many years. In 1975, after years of hard work, Dora and Wayne decided to sell the family business and became semi-retired.
After Wayne lost a battle with cancer in 1984, Dora later married Frank W. Hinton. They were married until Frank's death in 1995.
Dora and Wayne had four children, Joyce (Duane) Flower of Emmett, Gary (Sharon) Scott of Sequim, Wash., Sandy (Bert) Stevens of Olympia, Wash. and Kim Scott of Emmett.
Dora will always be remembered for her strong work ethic. She was famous for her homemade pies, pastries and home-cooked meals at her restaurants and at family gatherings. She worked tirelessly in her service to her church and prepared and delivered many meals and made weekly visits to friends in need and the elderly in nursing homes. Dora grew a garden and shared in its abundance with everyone. Among her favorite pastimes were camping and riding motorcycles with her family and competing for the largest catch of the day.
Dora is survived by 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way this spring. All considered her house a second home.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband Wayne D. Scott in 1984; her son, Kim in 1986; her son, Gary in 2005; her great-grandson, Cory in 1993; her grandson, Dustin in 2006; her sister, Pauline in 1993; her brother, Earl in 1998; and her sister, Irene in 2010.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her exceptional caregiver Chris Thompson of Chris's Place in Emmett and also a thank you to Heart 'n Home Hospice.
Services were held on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at the Emmett LDS Stake Center under the direction of the Potter Funeral Chapel.
