Harold L. Smith, 77, of Emmett, Idaho, passed away at a local care center on Nov. 26, 2012, of natural causes.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. Burial will be held at a later date.
Harold was born June 11, 1935, in Emmett, the only child of Harold H. and Zola L. Smith. He attended school in Emmett and graduated from Emmett High School in 1953. After graduation he enlisted and served two years in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1955, after which he enlisted in the Army
National Guard 616th Transportation Unit. He was Honorably Discharged from the Guard in 1962.
Harold married Beverly Bills in 1954. They had two boys, Doug and Kevin Smith.
On Aug. 9, 1974, Harold married Phyllis Burcham Moulton and inherited one son, Timothy, who he later legally adopted.
Harold began working as parts manager for Eaton Ford in 1968, the name later changed to Emmett Ford and he retired in 1996.
Harold is survived by his wife, Phyllis Smith, who stood by him for many years and throughout his illness; three sons, Doug and Kevin Smith and Tim (Heidi) Smith, all of Emmett; grandchildren, Brady Paul Smith of Emmett, Nathan Smith of Nampa and Kristina Smith of Henderson,Texas; a great-grandchild, of Nampa; mother-in-law, Patricia Burcham of Emmett; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Burcham of Nampa; a niece, Debbie (Tommy) Bittick of Caldwell; nephews, Ronald Ray, Mike (Virginia) and Pat (Shana) of Nampa; and several cousins.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a step father, brother-in-law, Ronald Burcham, six aunts, eight uncles and four cousins.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at the Cottages in Emmett for all the wonderful and loving care they gave Harold over the two and one-half years he lived there. Also, a special thanks to the staff of Heart 'n Home Hospice for their wonderful compassionate care and thanks to Dr. Thomson for taking such great care of Harold over the years.
