Martha Jean (Baetkey) Leonard

Mom was born April 2, 1925, to Marybelle and Gus Baetkey in Emmett, Idaho. She spent her youth in Emmett and graduated from Emmett High School in 1943.
Mom married Frank L. Leonard July 9, 1943, in Oakland, Calif. Mom and Dad lived on various military bases from California, to Florida before Dad was deployed to England during World War II.
After the war, Mom and Dad lived in Stibnite and Cascade before moving to Emmett. Now that they were settled, daughters Gayle and Nan were born. Mom was employed by Boise Cascade, Emmett School Transportation Department as a school bus driver and Dr. Harmon Holverson.
Mom's son-in-law's, Lee Hartman and Mike Riebs and grandson-in-law, Steven Bacom were very special to Mom and she loved them dearly.
The light of Mom's life were her grandchildren, Shannon (Rolland) Durbin, Justin Rolland, Chad Hartman and Kate (Hartman) Bacom. The stories they could tell! Mom was always eager to have them with her as she loved them so very much. The arrival of Tanner Sucher, her great-grandson, rounded out her family.
Mom loved to play bridge and made many lifelong friends; she was always ready to deal a hand at a moment's notice. She learned to play bridge while sitting on her dad's lap when she was very young. Mom taught the grandchildren how to play By-Rummy when they were barely old enough to hold the cards. A game of cards was part of our family get-togethers, the many hours of card games played will always be remembered. More often than not, she won!
Mom and Dad were active in antique car clubs, never missing a car tour or a parade over the years. Touring with the car clubs gave them the opportunity to see many parts of the country. Friday mornings, over coffee and cookies, has been a very special time for Mom, shared with their "old car" buddies and friends.
