Vera Leora Whiteley Benge, long-time Emmett, Idaho, resident passed away peacefully Oct. 5, 2013, in Emmett, surrounded by her family, just short of her 93rd birthday.
Vera was born Nov. 19, 1920, in the farm home of her parents, Myron and Kate Warwood Whiteley located 10 miles west of Emmett near the Little Rock Railroad Siding along Highway 52. She attended school in the Emmett area, including Emmett High School. She was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by three children, Jim (Marilyn Heath) of Davenport, Wash., Wes (Ruth Walker) of Springville, Utah and Karalee Dobbs (Req) of Meridian. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, and was the great-grandmother of 66 children. She is also survived by two sisters, Thelma Ziegler of Emmett and Virginia (Hank) Ombach of St. George, Utah.
She was preceded in death by four brothers Alvah , Floyd, Eldon and Roy. She also joins three sisters who have gone before Helen Vickery, Marie Arizabala and Evelyn Atkinson.
Vera was proud of her family and knew the names of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also knew of their whereabouts, marriages and livelihood. She had the same knowledge of all her nieces and nephews and kept that sharp awareness until her passing. Her faith and her family were the focus and pride of her life.
Her last few years were spent at Emmett Serenity Living, where she had many friends and enjoyed many activities.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett and starting at 9 a.m. before the service on Saturday. Services honoring Vera's life will be held in the Emmett LDS Stake Center located at 980 W. Central Road. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. Interment will follow at the Emmett Cemetery.
