John Foruria Obituary
Nov. 26, 1944 - May 3, 2017
John George Foruria, 72, of Boise, ID passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10th at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. A luncheon will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emmett.
John was born November 26, 1944 in Emmett, ID to Tiburcio "Chic" Foruria and Victoria Basabe Foruria of Emmett, ID.
He grew up in Emmett and attended Emmett High School where he graduated in 1963. John was an astounding athlete as he lettered in multiple sports while in high school. After high school he accepted a scholarship to play quarterback for the University of Idaho. After playing quarterback for the Vandals John was selected in round eight of the 1967 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. John played defensive back for the Steelers for three seasons.
After John returned from the NFL he pursued a 40 plus year career in the fruit industry as a fruit broker.
In John's free time he enjoyed attending horse races, bird hunting, and reconnecting with friends and familiy. John loved his Basque heritage and was proud to be Basque.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Chic Foruria and Victoria Alonso. He is survived by his sisters Angeles (Bob) Bork, Mary (Carl) Hill, Mauricia Alonso, nephews, Michael (Laurie) Bork, Kirk (Angie) Bork, and great nephews Aaron Hill, Christopher Hill and Josh Bork and a great niece Brandi Bork.
John was a great athlete but above all a terrific man. And he will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of John Foruria to your favorite charity.

I didn't know John well however I spent time talking to him at the Stagecoach Inn. I knew he was a modest giant who was graceful and kind. That's all I needed to know! With love and respect may you journey well sir! See you at the next Stagecoach.

It's hard to see a person like John who leaves us with an empty feeling at this time. However I was one that was so honored to have had so many great times on and off the court with him. To his family my heart goes out to you all!!! Rest in peace my friend!!
