Cleone (Mortensen) Hyde passed away at home on July 12, 2014. Mom was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Emmett, Idaho, to Norral and Esther (Wallace) Mortensen and was the fourth of seven children. She was raised and attended school in Emmett and her fondest memories from childhood are during the time that she lived on her grandparents' farm on the south slope.
In 1948, she married John Wyman and had three children from this marriage: Lynda, John and Don. They were divorced in 1954 and Mom moved back to Emmett and lived in her deceased grandfather's house located behind her mother's property. With three small children, she was not able to work outside the home but in the summers she worked in the fruit orchards like her mother had done. She would pack lunches and take the kids to the orchard and always said we ate more than we picked.
In 1958, she married Ron Hyde and they were married for 21 years and had three children: Ron, Judy and Trudy. With the birth of twin girls in 1961, she was the mother of six children ranging in age from 12 to babies. It was a full house and a full-time job.
In 1973, Mom finished her high school education and obtained a GED. She applied for the Practical Nursing Program at Walter Knox Hospital in Emmett and completed the classes in August of 1974. She took the Idaho State Board of Nursing examination in November of that year, received her LPN license in December and worked the next five years at the hospital in Emmett.
She divorced Ron in 1979 and in August of 1981 moved to Seattle with Lynda, Judy, Trudy and grandson Nick. In March of 1983, we moved back to Emmett and she went back to work at the hospital. In the fall she moved to Boise with Lynda and for the next 13 years made the drive from Boise to Emmett until her retirement in 1996.
In 1996, Trudy and her husband adopted a little girl in China and mom made the trip with them. They spent two weeks in China and it was one of Mom's most cherished memories.
After retirement she started researching our ancestry with her sister Norreen and this became a passion for many years. The search for information took her to Plymouth, Mass., Canada twice, Utah and Salmon, Idaho. Thanks to her efforts we have a vast amount of information going back generations.
Mom was an amazing woman. She loved us unconditionally, sacrificed more than any of us will ever know and never complained about how hard her life was at times. We cherish all our memories and will miss her every day.
She is survived by her children; Lynda Chapman, John (Margo) Wyman, Don (Sally) Wyman, Ron (Lisa) Hyde, Judy (Taylor) Dahlquist and Trudy Hughes; grandchildren Nick Chapman, Kate Wyman-Chick, Tysen Wyman, Jake Wyman, Joe Dahlquist, Andrew Dahlquist, Chad Hyde, Sarah Hughes and Kyle Hughes; step grandchildren Staci and Brandon Wiley; great-grandchildren Henry and Jack Chapman; step great-grandchildren Kenna, Jonah and Paxton and her siblings Don (Kay) Mortensen, Ann Smith, Coline (Ed) Glennon and Gail Mortensen
She was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter Shannon Hyde, grandson Scott Hyde, brother Kenny Mortensen, sister Norreen Stipp and mother Esther.
The family would like to thank St Luke's Hospice and in particular Sarah LaRochelle for their support and care during Mom's illness.
