On Sunday, July 21, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., Joyce Darlene Sedlacek passed away at home of cancer with her husband and children by her side.
Joyce was born in Kansas City, Mo. on May 2, 1953, to the proud parents of Hurley and Violet Blevins. She was the oldest of three children. At age five, the family moved to Emmett, Idaho and put down roots. Joyce graduated from Emmett High School. She spent time working in the orchards with her father.
Joyce later went to Links School of Business, where she met and married the love of her life, Randy Sedlacek, a farm boy from Meridian, Idaho. On June 16, 1973, they were married and for the next 40 years; they lived in the rural area of Meridian.
Joyce started out working for the State Police until she had her first child, Mariah. At that point, her lifelong dream of being a committed homemaker began with two more children, Randy II, with Milada to follow. Joyce will tell you that her bout with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1975 was the huge turning point in her life that made her the committed sold out born again Christian she became for the rest of her life.
Over the years, she was part of the homeschool movement in the area and loved volunteering any way she could with church and homeschool functions.
Joyce's additional joys in life were books, gardening and learning all she could about nutrition and herbs.
As grandchildren began arriving, her focus turned to helping raise them in any way she could. She was one of the most humble and amazing woman you could ever be blessed to know; and the most committed wife, mother and grandmother she could be.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Joan.
She is survived by her brother Frank Blevins; her husband, three children, Mariah Rice, Randy Sedlacek II (Beth) and Milada Solis; and 12 grandchildren.
There will be a viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home in Meridian.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Church of God 7th Day, 1808 W. Third St., Meridian.
