William Bert "Bill" Stevens, 88, of Emmett, Idaho, died March 8, 2013, at Life Care Center of Boise.

Bill was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Chandler, Ariz., to Bert and Willie Edna Stevens. He was the youngest of eight children. After graduating from Prescott High School in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on Guam until discharged in 1946. On April 11, 1947, he and Mary Ellen Knox of Emmett were married in Winnemucca, Nev. He worked at various jobs including farming, the Emmett saw mill and selling farm equipment for Emmett Truck and Implement. In 1974, Bill and Mary Ellen opened Stevens Insurance Agency where they worked until retiring in 2003.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; his children and their spouses, Bert and Sandy Stevens of Olympia, Jean and Steve Summersett of Eagle, Julie and Rich Prescott of Nampa, Jennifer and Denny Colson of Nampa and Jane and Rich Thompson of Jerome; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, plus two on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to CERT (619 W. 12th St., Emmett, ID 83617) or a
Bill was an avid sports fan and a dedicated BSU supporter. In honor of his loyalty to the Broncos, the family welcomes you to join them in wearing BSU game day apparel, colors or other casual attire.
