Lorene Estes Rains passed away on Aug. 2, 2010, at a care center in Emmett, Idaho.
Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. Interment was in the Emmett Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 5, 1922. to Bryan and Ruby Dixon in Harrison, Ark. where she and her four brothers spent most of their childhood years. To many of her family and close friends she was affectionately called Rene.
After graduating from Ridgeway School, she went to the Baptist State Hospital in Little Rock where she became a registered nurse. She met Leo Estes while working at the hospital in Harrison. They were married Dec. 31, 1943. In 1950 they moved to Emmett where she began nursing at Mary Secor Hospital. Lorene and Leo had one daughter, Kathryn Sue. Leo passed away in 1955. For over 20 years Lorene practiced her nursing skills as Harmon Holverson's office nurse.
Lorene and Carl Rains were married on March 27, 1980. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers, Loyd and Ernie and sister-in-law, Joy Dixon. Surviving are her daughter and son in law, Kathy and Mike Hoefer of Germany; brothers, Jack Dixon (Lorene) and LJ Dixon; sister-in-law, Dietra Dixon all of Emmett; sister-in-law, Francis Dixon of Harrison, Arkansas; stepson, Bob Rains (Jerry); stepdaughter, Betty Martz (Bill); and numerous nieces and nephews, 10 step-grandchildren and numerous great grand children.
