deGozzaldi, John D.  
John Devereux Dev deGozzaldi, 89, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at home after an extended illness. He is survived by his children, Lucy deGozzaldi of Northfield, Mary deGozzaldi of Westmoreland, N.H. , John deGozzaldi, Jr. of Fall River, Samuel deGozzaldi of Little Deer Isle, ME., and by one grandchild, Lydia deGozzaldi of Westmoreland, N.H. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly fifty years, Susan Merriam deGozzaldi. The son of Alfred James and Mary Schuyler deGozzaldi of Framingham, Dev attended Framingham public schools and Governor Dummer Academy, served in the Navy during World War II, and graduated from Harvard University in 1949. He was a capable businessman with a 30-year career as an advertising sales manager for Newsweek Magazine. After his retirement in the mid-1980s, he applied his business acumen to restoring, buying and selling antique cars, old car literature and other collectibles at flea markets and other venues, well into his senior years. He also secured part-time employment as a member of the Board of Directors of Charter Bank (later Chart Bank of Waltham and Newton). An accomplished sailor, Dev belonged to the Bucks Harbor Yacht Club in Brooksville, ME, serving a term as Commodore during his membership. He was an active member of the Speckled Band of Boston (a club devoted to the study of Sherlock Holmes), the Boston Harvard Club, Fox Club of Cambridge, and the LLL Club of Framingham. He served his hometown of Hopkinton on the Zoning Board of Appeals for many years. Dev was an easy-going and personable individual of sharp wit and keen intelligence, well-respected and liked by those who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Marks Episcopal Church, 27 Main Street, Southborough. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hopkinton Area Land Trust, PO Box 56, Woodville, MA 01784 or to the Island Heritage Trust, 420 Sunset Road, Deer Isle, ME 04627. DeSalvo, John  
John DeSalvo of Ashland died unexpectedly after a long healthy life of 96 years. He was the son of the late Giuseppe and Francesca DeSalvo, brother of the late Grace Salvetti and Larry DeSalvo and the grandfather of the late Jesse Graves. He is survived by his wife Phyllis of 74 years and his brother Sam DeSalvo and his wife Elaine of Wells, Maine, his daughter Elaine and her husband Robert Roberti of Ashland, his daughter Janice and her husband Robert Graves of Tucson, AZ and Dennis Port, MA and his son John DeSalvo and his wife Mary of Ashland. He leaves behind six grandchildren; Troy Barlous and his wife Diane of Tucson, AZ, Sharon Bennett and her husband Barry of Ashland, Rob Roberti and his wife Maureen of Ashland, Tracy Byrnes and her husband Bobbo of Huntington Beach, California, John E. DeSalvo Jr. and his wife Gorette of Westboro and Tom DeSalvo of Ashland. Seven great grandchildren; Jennifer Oswald and her husband Mickey of AZ, Troy Barlous II of AZ, Michael and Matthew Roberti of Ashland and Casey, Corey and Abby Bennett of Ashland. He also leaves one great, great granddaughter Olivia Oswald of Arizona and many nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed. He never failed to let his family know how much they were loved. His hugs and squeezes will be missed. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 25th between 5 and 7 PM at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street in Ashland. A funeral mass will take place at St. Cecilias Church, 54 Esty Street in Ashland on Wednesday, August 26th at 9 AM. One visiting will also be an hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Johns name may be sent to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
