Carl E. Chellquist, 93, formerly of Holliston, passed away on July 3, 2013. He leaves his daughter Karen of Wilmington DE, sons Malcolm of Framingham and Eric of Reading, PA, grandsons Malcolm, Ian and Benjamin also of Reading and his sister-in-law Dorothy Ferguson and family in CT. Sadly he was predeceased by Margaret, his younger daughter in 2002 and Shirley, his wife of 55 years in 2003. Born in New Haven, CT, Carl was raised in Boston by his parents, Gustava and Isidore, Swedish immigrants to the US. He graduated from Boston English High School and went to work. With savings and scholarship monies, he attended Colby College in Waterville, ME where he met and courted Shirley. After their graduation and marriage in 1948, they began teaching in rural ME. Carl later earned a Masters Degree from Columbia University. Carl continued teaching in Holliston, Braintree, and retired from Brookline High School. In retirement Carl took up his father-in-laws hobby, amateur radio, and he and Shirley began traveling, enjoying cruises particularly. A lifetime Republican, Carl frequented various coffee counters and Holliston businesses regularly where he enjoyed discussing town, state and US politics. He served the town as a Trustee of the Public Library for many years. He was a Cub Scout Master and member of the Congregational Church. For some years he acted in plays produced by the Curtain-Timers. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Hollis Lodge, Mt. Lebanon Royal Arch Chapter and the Milford Commandery, Knights Templar. Carl and Shirley retired to Wilmington, NC in 1995 where they enjoyed the warmer climate and proximity to the ocean. After Shirleys death Carl moved back north to be closer to family. Arrangements were conducted by Bean Funeral Homes & Crematory of Sinking Spring, PA. Carl will rest in the Columbarium at Forest Hills in Boston. Memorial remembrances will be planned by the family.
