Robert J. Hooper

Robert J. Hooper, 93, of Harwich, MA, formerly of Holliston and Needham, MA, passed away at his home in Harwich on Saturday, March 23rd, surrounded by his family.. A Veteran of the United States Army, serving in England during WWII, Bob was born in Cambridge MA on March 9, 1920; he was the son of the late Archibald and Grace (Leahy) Hooper and brother Donald Hooper. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Claire K. Hooper, his daughter, Laurel L. Slicer, and son, Alan J. Hooper. Bob always enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage with his family and many friends on Cape Cod. He was always up for a good fishing trip with his nephews and loved to watch the Red Sox, the Mens Duke Basketball and Notre Dame Football teams play. Along with his late wife Claire, Bob played a very significant role in raising his three grandchildren of his daughter after her passing in 1986 due to breast cancer. Bob is survived by his three sisters, and his seven grandchildren; Eric Slicer and his wife Laura, of Moorhead, MN; Mark Slicer and his wife Amy of Shrewsbury, MA; Adam Slicer and his wife Lauren of Holliston, MA; Annie (Hooper) Sartz and her husband Patrick of Fairbanks, AK; and Alex, David, and Michael Hooper also of Fairbanks, AK; as well as six great grandchildren; Emily, AJ, Max, Campbell, Colin and Kyle. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, who along with their spouses were significant part of his life. The family plans to hold a memorial service in Harwich Port this summer at a family residence overlooking the beach, where Bob and his late wife Claire met in 1937 as teenagers, while spending the summers on Cape Cod. His ashes will be placed among those of his late wife, daughter and son at Lake Grove Cemetery in Holliston, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations may be made in Bobs memory to either the American Breast Cancer Society or the VNA Hospice, 434 Route 134 South Dennis, MA 02660.
