Walter D. Mahoney

Walter D. Mahoney, 78, passed away on October 12, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Bernice (Grana) Mahoney. Born and raised in Natick, MA., he attended Natick High School and served with the United States Navy during the Korean War, as a Hospital Corpsman on the USS Everglades. During his time in the Navy he was a Golden Gloves boxing champion. Mr. Mahoney served and retired from the Natick Fire Department after 27 years of faithful service. He was a member of the Am Vets, American Legion and Elks. He was also an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and gardening. Salt of the earth, he treasured his family and many friends. Larger than life he enjoyed laughter and good times. In addition to his wife he leaves a son Walter Donald Mahoney, Jr. of Natick, three daughters; Denise M. Mahoney of Boston, Donna L. Mahoney of Yarmouth Port, Doreen Mahoney Austin and her husband Steven Austin (Walters Best friend), of Bass River. Walter now rests peacefully with his late son Darren Sean Mahoney. He also leaves a sister in law, Judith Gentili of Yarmouth and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his three brothers, John, Robert and Richard Mahoney. Walter's family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by Hope Hospice and the Physicians and staff at Emerald Physicians. Services will be held privately.
