Joseph M. Meany Jr.

Joseph M. Meany Jr., 78, of Marlborough died Saturday, February 10, 2018 at home. He leaves his wife of 55 years Ann M. (Barry) Meany, his son Kevin Meany, daughter-in-law Mary, and grandson Andrew. Joe also leaves his sister Dorothy Barth of Waltham and was the father of the late Paul Meany who died in 2001 Joe was born in Waltham, son of the late Joseph M. and Mabel (Almond) Meany and had lived in Marlborough for the past 42 years. He was the Boys Club National Boy of the Year in 1957 and was selected to be the cabin boy on the Mayflower II on the re-creation of the Pilgrims voyage from England. Joe attended St. Marys High School in Waltham and was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he was also a member of the Notre Dame Monogram club for lettering on the swim team. He also received his Masters degree from Northeastern University After graduation Joe worked at Western Unionand RCA, but spent most of his professional career at Digital Equipment Corporation from which he retired in 1994. Joe also was a supporter of the Boys (& Girls) Club and served as the president of the Marlborough club. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the restoration of the Mayflower II Restoration, c/o Plimoth Plantation P.O. Box 1620 Plymouth MA, 02360 Funeral arrangements are in the care of the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main Street, Marlborough, Ma 01752. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mathias Church, Wilson Street, Marlborough on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:00AM.
