Alida Walcott Obituary

Alida M. Lindy (Shaw) Walcott, passed away at the age of 96, at Metro West Medical Center on Sunday evening August 3, 2014 after a short illness. Lindy was born in Bridgewater, Ma grew up in Brockton and made Southborough her home since 1953. Lindy was the wife of Harold W. Walcott for whom she was married for 44 years and predeceased her in 1988 and the mother of Dennis H. Walcott who predeceased her in 1963. Lindy was a lifelong, active member of St. Annes Parish in Southborough. She was a past President of the Southborough Catholic Womens club, a past president and member of the Marlborough Ace of Clubs, and a Marion Mother. Lindy was a dog lover and especially loved her dogs Ginger and Piper. She leaves her two children, Craig R. Walcott and his wife Janet, and her loving, devoted daughter Catherine Walcott of Southborough, MA. She also leaves two grandchildren, Jonathan and Ashley Walcott of Monument, CO. Lindy started her er with children after receiving her Certificate in Child Nursing. After graduation, she became a governess and child nurse in Southborough, Medfield, Brookline, Newton, and Manchester by the Sea. Lindy was the founder owner and operator of the first kindergarten of Southborough, Walcott Kindergarten, which she started in her home in 1957. Due to its great success she moved her establishment to East Main Street in Southborough and grew to six fulltime classes per day and eventually a fulltime daycare center as well. A testament on how she changed peoples lives occurred when a middle aged man rang the doorbell one day asking to see Lindy, upon seeing her he related a story of how his life was changed thru her efforts while at her school. After retirement, she wanted to stay connected to children in some way and was a crossing guard for Neary School in Southborough. She was also an avid bingo player, enjoyed traveling with her lifelong friends, playing cards with her sisters. She was also was a member of the Thursday night card club in metro west. Lindy was known for creativity, spunk, tenacity in all that she did. Lindy was also a devoted wife and mother and was fiercely committed to her family. She also was a very friendly and outgoing member of Southborough and enjoyed involvement with the community and her friends. She especially loved to host her extended family for Christmas gatherings. The funeral will be held Monday, August 11th at 10:00 AM rom the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc. 57 main Street Marlborough, with a mass at 11 AM at St. Matthew; 18 Highland Street, Southborough, MA. Burial to follow at Rural Cemetery, Southborough, MA. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, August 10th from 10 | 3.
