Georgia Lentros has passed away peacefully in her sleep on Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2013, with no pain or suffering after a long and meaningful life of 98 years. Born in Norwood in 1914 to Panaghos and Despina (Antonakis) Lentros, she attended primary school and frequented her fathers candy shop, The Norwood Candy Kitchen. She maintained her sweet tooth throughout her life. After her father was supposedly diagnosed with stomach cancer in 1921, she and her mother along with her two brothers, George and Jimmy, returned to Sparta, Greece where they stayed for many years. The diagnosis proved false and the family retuned back to the States and settled at 65 Boston Street in Salem. She attended Salem public schools and planned to pursue nursing but other demands took her time. During the war years she worked at Sylvania which had a large facility across the street where she worked on lighting products and fuses for the military war effort. She was always good with her hands playing the piano and working on her guitar which she never mastered but had fun doing. Being a strong willed Spartan woman she braved the train ride every day to Boston where she attended the Wilfred Academy Beauty School and pursued hair dressing as it was called at the time. After her father had died in 1949 she decided to open a beauty shop on the second floor of the multi-family home at 65 Boston Street. She called her shop The Salonette Beauty Shoppe. This allowed her to take care of her mother, Despina, and share the home with her brother Demetrius (Jimmy). After her mother died in 1967 she pursued real estate sales in Salem as well as continuing her Salonette Shop. In 1978 she and her brother decided to move to Ashland to be with their brother George, who had lost his wife four years earlier. Both worked at Lentros Engineering, Georgia again pursuing another career at 65 years old as a bookkeeper. Georgia lived in Ashland for 35 years and thankfully got to spend time with her great grandchildren who lived close by. Thankfully she lived at the family home until the end of her life, surrounded by the people she loved and who loved her. She leaves Kimberly Lentros, her grand-niece, and her children, Kaitlin, Lettie, and Bart and her nephew Peter Lentros as her immediate family; Louise Garcia who was her constant companion and caretaker for the last 6 years; and many cousins here and in Greece who remember her spirit and will never forget her. They are together now as it should be. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 1 PM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland. Calling hours will be held from 11 AM | 1 PM, prior to the service. Interment will take place Friday morning at 11 AM in the family lot in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem, MA. (www.mataresefuneral.com)
