Joseph F. Joe McHugh Jr., 71, of Hopedale, died Friday, April 26, 2013 at the UMASS Medical Center, Lake Ave., Worcester as a result of a tragic accident at home. He was the loving husband of Anna Marie (Doorly) McHugh. Mr. McHugh taught in the Medfield School System for 38 years before his retirement in 2002. He had been a resident of Hopedale since 1969. Joe was born Aug. 3, 1941 in Cambridge, son of the late Joseph F. McHugh, Sr. and Charlotte (Craibe) McHugh. He was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1959, Boston University, Class of 1963, and earned his Masters Degree in Education from Boston State College, Class of 1966. Mr. & Mrs. McHugh observed their 48th wedding anniversary on June 28, 2012. Joe was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the National Education Association, the Medfield Teachers Union, and the Boston University Alumni Association. He was an avid Boston sports fan and traveler. In addition to his wife, he was a devoted father to his daughter, Mary McHugh of Hudson, his sons, Larry McHugh of Wayland and Mike McHugh of Boston; a loving brother to his sisters, Virginia and her husband Arthur Richards of Chelsea and Judith McHugh LaRosa of Peabody, and adoring grandfather to Joseph Daniel McHugh and John Michael McHugh, both of Framingham. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Virginia Doorly of Hopedale and his brother-in-law, John Doorly of Lynn and his sister-in-law Mary Jane Doorly of Topsfield and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 10 a.m. from the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale St., Hopedale. Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Mendon St. Rte. 16, Hopedale. Visiting hours will be Monday, April 29, 2013 from 4 - 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
