I am deeply saddened and very sorry to hear of Dr. Barnhard's passing. I owe my life to him and his team at Boston Children's Hospital for performing life saving ASD surgery on me at age 10 Valentines Day Feb.14,1969 54 years ago. I still donate blood to the Children's Blood Donation Center and they put my picture and story on their calendar for Febuary 2022 Heart Month Warrior's. My mother still talks about him. I am eternally grateful for his good works. May he Rest In Peace and have eternal life. Most Respectfully, Frank H. Collins Braintree Mass.

To the Bernhard Family - So very sorry for your loss but what wonderful memories you have to hold on to. I was lucky enough to have some fairly recent correspondence with Dr. B and June which triggered fond thoughts of my years working at Children's Hospital. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Such a great man, Dr. Bernhard! He "fixed" my heart back in 1972 when I was a teen, at the Boston Children's Hospital. I have never forgotten him. Your family is blessed to have grown up with a Dad like him!! He certainly gave me a longer life and I thank God for him all the time!!
I am sorry for your loss. May all of your great memories that you shared as a family keep him in your hearts forever!
Sincerely,
Karen Decina

Say not in grief he is no more but in thankfulness that he was. We will miss him terribly, but feel gladness in knowing his brief, physical trials have ended, through this transition. We celebrate this significant life !
