Filena Ferrari

Obituary Condolences

Filena P. Ferrari (Seymour), known as Phyllis for years to her many friends and family in Ashland, MA where she lived for decades on East Union Street, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2014. Widowed young upon the sudden death of her husband Larz, Filena put together a new life as grandmother to three grandchildren, to whom she acted as a secondary caregiver, and as a loyal volunteer at Saint Patricks Manor. As a grandmother, she was active in her grandchildrens lives and upbringing. In her work in Saint Patricks Crafts Room, Filena was able to continue many of the art activities that she loved during her life. She both braided and hooked rugs, painted and quilted. Filena also loved her garden and worked in it daily, alongside her family, for years. Working with the residents of Saint Patricks was one of the highlights of her life. Indeed, she would say that it helped her through the mourning process for her husband. Filena became a resident of Saint Pats, a place she always wanted to live when she could no longer take care of herself. She passed away there on Friday morning. Filena is survived by her daughter, JoAnne Preiser of Needham, MA, her son, Joseph Ferrari of Ashland, MA, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Family and friends will gather Monday April 14th at Saint Patricks Manor, 863 Central Street, Framingham MA at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00am. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 5-7pm at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street Ashland, MA 01721. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Parmenter Foundation 400 Boston Post Road, Suite 1A Sudbury, MA 01776 or Saint Patricks Manor. www.mataresefuneral.com.
