Aubrey M. Hensel Obituary
Aubrey M. Bud Hensel, 88, of Mendon passed away Tues., June 17, 2014 at the home of his sister Sis Hensel. He was the husband of Sara L. Sally (Crandell) Hensel who died in 2012. Bud was born Dec. 21, 1925 in Milford, MA the son of the late William R. and Wilhelmena M. (Allen) Hensel II. He was a graduate of Mendon High School. Bud joined the Navy at the beginning of WW II in 1943 and served for 3 years as a Signalman in Communications. Bud was then selected to join the 5th Marine Division in Guam for the invasion of Japan, serving in the Communications Division. He loved the Navy and was so proud to serve his Country. Upon returning home to the U.S., Bud joined his family and spent many years working in the restaurant business, both in Melbourne, FL and in Mendon, MA. The well-known Florida restaurant, Hensels Red Rooster experienced one of their most rewarding times serving the large event that was held for John Glenn when he returned from his trip into space. Bud liked to travel and many of their vacations were spent cruising Germany, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and more with his Gal Sal. Bud loved life in general and so enjoyed his family. Every Christmas the families travel from far away to celebrate the holiday. Everyone makes an attempt to attend, no matter how difficult it was to get there. It is a family celebration to never miss! Everyone is grateful to Sis for always opening her beautiful home to all the family. Bud is a beautiful person that has filled the life of many with love and happiness. He has been a great son, brother, husband, father, and most of all an amazing grandfather, a friend to all! Bud is survived by three sons; John E. Hensel and his wife Cathy of Eugene, OR, James Hensel of Melbourne, FL, Jerald F. Hensel and his wife Christina of Birmingham, AL, one step-son, David A. Twist of Lodi, NJ, two daughters; Doreen B. and her husband Kenneth Costa of Uxbridge, Kathryn E. Devoll of Cocoa, FL, one step-daughter, Diane Brunell of Norwalk, CT, one brother; Robert E. Hensel of Milford and two sisters; Wilhelmena Sis M. Hensel of Mendon, Carolyn A. and her husband Robert Topping of Milford, 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William T. Hensel. Visiting hours will be held Fri, June 20, 2014 from 5-8 PM in the BUMA-SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, 42 Congress Street, Milford. Funeral services with full military honors will be held Sat, June 21, 2014 at 9 AM from the funeral home followed by a Celebration of Life with Eucharist at 10 AM in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 17 Congress St., Milford.
