Eleanor C. "Ellie" Konowicz, 75, of Leominster, a former longtime resident of Maynard, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 in Lancaster after a long period of declining health. Born in Concord and raised in Maynard, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Shusta) Konowicz. Ellie graduated from Maynard High School in 1956 and later attended secretarial school in Boston. First employed at Nuclear Metals, most of her career was with Hewitt Packard where she was the group travel coordinator until her retirement in 2001. Ellie's passion was travel, with trips throughout Europe, Asia and the islands. She also skied throughout the US and Europe, including the Alps, but her favorite destination was Africa for safaris. She enjoyed gourmet cooking and time spent with her many groups of friends. She is survived by a brother, Robert Konowicz and his wife Daphne of England; a sister Gloria Spratt and her husband Jim of Sagamore Beach, MA; nieces and nephews, Scott Spratt and wife Robbyn, Sharon Griffin and husband Rocky, Paul Konowicz and wife Sharon, Michaela Powney and husband Bill, and Tanya Hinchliffe and husband Mike; a grand-niece and 4 grand-nephews, and many close friends. Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, June 27th from 9:00-10:00am at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, with the funeral Mass to follow at 10:30am in St. Bridget's Church, 1 Percival Street, Maynard. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Great Road, Maynard.
