Herb Feldman, of Natick MA, passed away at the age of 81,on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was a beloved husband of 25 years to Carol Rutledge, and late wife Barbara O'Brien of 25 years. Herb was a loving father to Alex Feldman and his wife, Ami of Somerville, Gregory Feldman and his wife, Barbara of Wareham, Geoffrey Feldman and his wife Yolanda of Puerto Rico, and Patrick Feldman of Wellesley. He was an adored grandfather of Cameron, Jennifer, Geoffrey, AnnaPurl, Desi, AJ, and Geoffrey Jr. Herb was born in Cuba on February 2, 1933 to parents Joseph and Bertha (Cagen) Feldman, who had escaped the persecutions in the Ukraine in 1925. At age 4, Herb and his parents dodged bullets to immigrate to NYC where they reunited with aunts and cousins who also escaped the persecutions in Ukraine. Herb graduated from Bronx High School of Science in1951, and City College in NY1955 with a degree in engineering. Herb retired as an engineer for Mitre Corporation after working there for 25 years. While working for Mitre Corporation on Radome design (radar on planes), he became intensely curious about a fault in design. Against the advice of his superiors, he worked furiously on understanding more about the thickness of the lightweight radar. For his efforts he was recognized with awards for his groundbreaking improvements. Herb enjoyed retired life going to European adventures with his wife Carol, studying astronomy, hosting family gatherings, and being with his friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to honor Herb's life on Friday August 8, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street, at Natick Common. A reception at his late home, 23 Jennings Pond Natick will follow. Burial is private.
