Obituary Condolences

VERO BEACH, FL Joan S. (Scannell) Patterson, 88, died peacefully in Vero Beach, Florida on August 20, 2009 following a brief illness. She was born on January 25, 1921 in Clyde Bank, Scotland the daughter of the Late John Scannell and Ellen (Melekin) Scannell. She was the beloved mother of James Patterson and his wife Kathaleen of Holliston; Gregory Patterson and his wife Joan of Dennis and Gary Patterson and his wife Gail of Norfolk. He was the proud grandmother of James Patterson and his wife Jamie; Katie Ellen LoBuono and her husband Joseph; Megan Buczynski and her husband David; Timothy Patterson; Heather Marusa and her husband Brendan and Sarah, Sean and Scott Patterson. loving great-grandmother of Ellie, CJ and Bram Patterson and Matthew Buczynski. She was the sister of Timothy Scannell of Indiana and the late Jack Scannell, Eileen Hoff and Mary Greulich. Also survived by 6 nieces and 3 nephews. She was the beloved wife for 63 years of Harold E. Pat Patterson who died on August 11, 2009. Mrs. Patterson came to the United States as a child and spent her formative years in Detroit, Michigan. She had been a resident of Wayland for 20 years before retiring and spending time in Vero Beach, Florida and in West Yarmouth. She served her country proudly during World War II as a Sergeant with the United States Womens Marine Corps. She loved to travel with her husband Pat, enjoyed activities with her family at Lake Winnipesauke, West Yarmouth and Vero Beach. She was an avid Red Sox fan and a Den Mother with the Boy Scouts for her three boys. She and her husband were among several of the founding members of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Wayland. She was involved with the Ladies Altar Guild and was a Sunday school teacher. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (OFF ROUTE 30), Wayland. A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 169 Rice Road, Wayland. Interment will follow in the Patterson family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial gifts in her memory may be sent to the Jimmy Fund, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place, 6th floor, Boston, MA 02445-7226
