Obituary Condolences

Helen L. Ellicott, 90, of Grant Township near Owendale, passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at her home.

She was born May 6, 1917 to the late Jess and Mary (Kavanagh) Putman in Grant Township. On Feb. 17, 1939, the Rev. Cedric Harger united Helen Putman and Willard Ellicott in marriage. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2000.

Mrs. Ellicott was a 1934 graduate of Owendale High School. She was Grant Township Supervisor for 12 years and a 4-H Leader for the township for 16 years. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, cross word puzzles, her flower garden, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Joanne (Ron) Sweeney of Bad Axe; two sons, Frank (Janet) Ellicott of Mayville and David (Lesa) Ellicott of Owendale; 12 grandchildren, Paul Sowden and fiancé Jessica, of Pennsylvania, Russell (Nancy) Sowden of Owendale, Susan (Dave) Sauer of Bad Axe, Pam (Brian) Peters of Cass City, Kelly Schaible of Bad Axe, Katie Sweeney of New York, Steven Ellicott of Owendale, Matthew (Catherine) Ellicott of Caro, Timothy (Shannon) Ellicott of Casnovia, Beth Ellicott of Spring Lake, Lindsey Ellicott and Sarah Ellicott both of Owendale; 15 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Lee Sowden of Owendale; one sister-in-law, Jean Putman of Owendale; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Sowden; three brothers, Frank Putman, Alton Putman, and Bill Putman; and one sister, Gertrude Endersbe.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 at the Elkton United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Collins and the Rev. Robert Garrett will officiate.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the MacAlpine "Mac" Chapel in Bad Axe and from 10 a.m. until the funeral service on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to the Bad Axe Public Library.
