Chester Smith

Beverly — Chester Smith, 92, of Beverly, KY passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Baptist Health of Corbin. He was born on Cadiz Creek in Clay County, Kentucky on May 7, 1926 and was the son of the late Oliver Smith and Sophia Slusher Smith Lewis. Chester was a World War II Veteran serving his country in the United States Army Air Forces and was a business owner, having operated of The Red Bird Café and Minute Man Catering in Beverly for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pearl, Patsy, Carol, Hazel and Ruby. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Marilyn Ruth Wilder Smith; children, Ricky Smith and wife, Teresa of Frankfort, KY, Dwayne Wilder and wife, Melissa of Williamsburg, KY, Sheila Barnett and husband, Tim of Harrogate, TN and Terry Smith and wife Chelsea of Manchester, KY; grandchildren, Annabella Smith and Canaan Smith; brothers, Billy Lewis and Willie Baker; a special cousin, Gary Slusher; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 22 at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Hicks and Rev. Tim Barnett. Burial will follow in the family cemetery on Chester's homeplace in Beverly, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 until 1 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to be serving the Smith family.
