Harold "Doc" Massengill, 78 of Middlesboro, passed away Thursday Aug. 1, 2013 at his home. He was born in Middlesboro on Nov. 21, 1934. A son of the late William Jesse and Carrie Calloway Massengill. Harold was a graduate of Middlesboro High School and he was a member of the East Cumberland Ave. Baptist Church. Harold entered the United States Air Force in 1954 and retired after 27 years in 1981. He was a Flight Medic serving in the Vietnam war, flying missions into combat areas. After leaving the Air Force Harold returned to his home in Middlesboro and worked for the Kentucky Dept. of Transportation for 22 years, retiring in 2004. He was also recently elected to serve on the Middlesboro City Council.
In addition to his Parents he was preceded in death by 4 sisters: Edna Branham, Mildred Miller, Ruby Van Beber, and Wilma Mays, 4 Brothers: Tommy Massengill, John Roger Massengill, Jim Massengill and C.A. "Buddy" Massengill.
Wife of 40 years: Anesia Massengill;
3 Children: Rosa (Isaiah) Hill, Noreen Rodriguez and Jeffrey Massengill;
3 Sisters: Thelma (Don) Williams, Helen Harris and Suzi (James) Pursifull;
5 Grandchildren: Charles Burchfield III, Coby Rodriguez, Luke Rodriguez, Madelyn and Alexander Massengill;
Many Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8 pm Sunday at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mitch Bradshaw presiding. Music will be provided by the East Cumberland Choir. Interment will be at 10 am Monday at the Green Hills Memorial Gardens with full military honors given by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and the American Legion Dewey Guy Post # 14 of Middlesboro. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Danny Massengill, David Massengill, Sam Massengill, Jimmy Pursifull, J.P Branham, Alan Williams, Sam Miller, Eddie Miller, Bill Van Beber, Jr., and Richard Van Beber. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Sunday at the Creech Funeral Home. The family requests that anyone attending the Interment service to meet at the Creech Funeral Home at 9:30 am Monday to meet for procession to the Cemetery.
